More About ACRYLIC INNOVATION

Ok, I just have to do one more blog post on this fabulous book,ACRYLIC INNOVATION, by nancy Reyner .  You may recall from my last blog how excited I was to be included in this group and book.   Well, now that I’ve seen the book live, my head is just spinning with new art-making possibilities.

Partner, Tom Miles, and I went to Nancy’s artist talk and book signing two weeks ago.  As I listened to Nancy’s talk I was struck by the degree to which she can access the world around her — particularly spatially — and express it so clearly.  I’m amazed (and appreciative) at how deeply she goes into her explorations.

For me, I think it just shows up on the page.  I think I just act on feeling — not too much thinking going on as I’m working.  I do know I’m always looking for visual “clues” and nuggets–I was doing this as Nancy spoke and showed her wonderful images.  What about that arrangement?  Hmm-m.  That’s a great color palette.  What was that technique?  Wow!  That’s cool.  Can I do something to get an effect like that?

Before the talk Nancy gave me and each of the other artists there our very own autographed copy of ACRYLIC INNOVATION, STYLES AND TECHNIQUES FEATURING 64 VISIONARY ARTISTS.   She even had a blue Post It marking my page (Page 98, in the section entitled “Variations on Pattern Field”)!  How thoughtful of her — how did she know that would be the page I’d want to see first?

I’ve only had time to page through it so far–some 144 pages–did I mention it has a DVD? –I haven’ watched that yet–but it’s just full of inspiring images and techniques and thoughtful ways of looking at artistic styles.  I’m just enthralled with this book.

I even love how the book is bound–hard cover with spiral insert–it opens flat and stays open so I can use it in the studio.  But I don’t want to mess it up!

If you feel like you want one for yourself, there’s an affiliate link to Amazon here to the on tthe right side of this blog site.   You can see some pages before deciding and see whether you still want it.

I’m attaching some photos from that evening and the second event, a book signing with 14 of the artists, last Saturday.

Ciao!  Pat
